Interfaith Jewish Families: Welcoming & Inclusive Synagogue in Plainview, NY

At Manetto Hill Jewish Center (MHJC), we believe in building and nurturing strong, vibrant Jewish families. Interfaith families and Jews-by-choice are not just guests—they are an integral, deeply valued part of our synagogue community. We warmly invite all couples and families who wish to create, explore, or sustain a Jewish household to actively participate in our community life.

Our Inclusive Ritual Policies & Practices

In alignment with evolving guidelines within the Conservative Movement and the unique demographics of our Long Island community, our Rabbi and Ritual Committee have established supportive ritual policies. We ensure that non-Jewish spouses and partners feel fully included in family milestones.

    • Bimah & Aliyah Participation: When a Jewish member receives an Aliyah (Torah honor), their non-Jewish spouse or partner is warmly invited to accompany them up to the Bimah.
    • Family Life-Cycle Celebrations: Non-Jewish parents and family members are meaningfully included in lifecycle events, from baby namings and Bris ceremonies to B’nai Mitzvah celebrations and weddings.
    • Open Dialogue: We understand that navigating interfaith dynamics involves unique questions. Our leadership is always here to provide guidance in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

3 Core Pathways for Interfaith Engagement at MHJC

Explore how your family can grow, learn, and connect with other families in the Plainview and Nassau County area:

    1. Inclusive Religious School & Youth Programs: Our MHJC Hebrew School provides an open, nurturing learning environment for children from age 2 through B’nai Mitzvah. We explicitly welcome the active participation of both Jewish and non-Jewish parents in our classrooms and youth events. Ready to join our learning community? You can download our latest enrollment documents on our MHJC Religious School Applications page..
    2. Warm Synagogue Membership: We offer family memberships that fully respect, recognize, and value both partners equally. At MHJC, we have completely reimagined synagogue dues through our Give From the Heart program. Instead of rigid price tiers, you choose your own annual sustaining pledge based on your personal financial situation. Learn more about the community perks on our Benefits of Membership page or access the online portal directly to complete your MHJC Membership Application.
    3. Engaging Religious Services: Our egalitarian services combine traditional melodies with an accessible atmosphere, offering translated materials to help everyone follow along comfortably.
