Lag B’Omer 2021

This year, members of the Manetto Hill Jewish Center found a creative and safe way to
celebrate Lag B’Omer together. On Saturday May 1, MHJC’s members gathered during
the evening hours for a fun- filled outdoor Family & Friends Bonfire event.

Masked and socially distanced, members met in the parking lot of the synagogue to
enjoy roasting marshmallows, making s’mores, and the live music of David Rokofsky on
vocals and guitar. Rabbi Neil Schumann led the evening’s Havdallah service, joined by
MHJC’s Hebrew School students for candle lighting.

“It was an honor for me to perform for our community, not just MHJC but the Plainview
Community who enjoyed the music,” said Rokofsky. “To be able to sing and play guitar
for my friends and family at MHJC brought me nachus (joy)!”

Rokofsky entertained MHJC’s families with contemporary tunes which got members up
from their chairs to dance and sing along, while still observing the necessary safety
measures. Member of MHJC, Lance Lefkowitz, who attended the celebration with his
family, agreed: “It was a wonderful night which started with a very positive and well
participated in service led by the rabbi with some beautiful songs. It was very nice for us
to be getting together in person with all of the other members of the temple who
attended. We look forward to be able to spend a lot more time outside with our temple
family going forward.”

MHJC is currently planning more fun and safe events that will bring nachus to their
membership and to the community.
