MHJC Celebrates Rabbi Neil Schuman’s Decades of Leadership

The Manetto Hill Jewish Center (MHJC) community recently marked a joyous milestone, gathering for a celebratory brunch to honor our new 10-year contract extension with Rabbi Neil Schuman. As a beloved spiritual leader, Rabbi Neil’s dedication continues to leave a lasting impact on our congregation and the broader Plainview community.

The event drew widespread community support and congratulatory honors from prominent local dignitaries who praised Rabbi Neil for his outstanding leadership, service, and civic dedication.

Recognition from Local Dignitaries & New York State Leaders

During the celebration, several public officials shared remarks reflecting Rabbi Neil’s prominent role in Nassau County:

Nassau County Legislator Arnold Drucker commended Rabbi Neil, calling him “a pillar in the community” while honoring his deep dedication to MHJC, his family, and the region at large.
New York State Senator Steve Rhoads emphasized Rabbi Neil’s broad impact. “Rabbi Neil’s leadership goes beyond the synagogue walls,” Rhoads remarked, praising his active work with the local Interfaith Council and extending an invitation for Rabbi Neil to lead opening prayers at a future New York State Senate session in Albany.
New York State Assemblymember Charles Lavine sent warm well-wishes, praising Rabbi Neil as an integral part of the Long Island Jewish community.

A Shared Vision of Continuity, Stability, and Growth

The theme of the milestone celebration centered on continuity, stability, and consistency. Russ Blatt, President of MHJC, addressed the gathered members with a powerful message about the congregation’s future direction:

“You have made a bold statement with this contract, and that statement is that we believe in Rabbi Neil and we plan on being here for quite a while.”

The celebration culminated in a presentation of honors recognizing Rabbi Neil’s ten years of dedicated service to our egalitarian synagogue.
