October 7th brought us unimaginable terror and loss of life that has shocked us to the core. We mourn the loss of all who have lost their lives at the hands of Hamas and pray for the wounded as well as the safe return of those held hostage. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with Israel and the Israeli Defense Forces. We will continue to stand with Israel and do what we can during this horrific time.
Israel needs both our outspoken support as well as monetary support as they fight Hamas and the other terrorist groups bent on Israel’s destruction. There are some ways in which we can help.
Every Sunday members of the Plainview community meet at County Pointe at 10:00 to participate in a walk in support of the hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza. This is a global movement, run under the auspices of Run for Their Lives, consisting of over 200 groups worldwide.
We walk to the wall of the Hostages by Captain Omer Neutra Way (a section of Manetto Hill Road recently named for Omer Neutra) at the Mid Island Y JCC. The walk seeks to continue to bring awareness to the plight of the hostages. Sadly, there are still 50 hostages in Gaza, of which at least 27 are believed to be dead. As the conditions of those who are still alive are precarious and grow worse each day, it is so very important that we show our support in every way possible. We thank the police department, who provides security and accompanies us on the walk each Sunday and pray that the day will come soon when this walk will no longer be necessary.
